Loenhard Garms, conductor
Leonhard Garms started playing piano and organ at early age and became interested in composition and improvisation. Still in school he had his first conducting experiences under the guidance of M° Lorenzo Castriota-Skanderbeg. At the University of music in Graz/ Austria he then studied conducting, accompaniment and music theory.
First professional experiences during conservatory led him to Graz Opera, Styriarte festival and several other festivals and local orchestras .
2005 he then worked as pianist and coach at Komische Oper Berlin, 2008 as conductor and coach at Regensburg City Opera.
2010 he started free-lancing with institutions such as Istanbul State Opera, Ruhrtiennale Festival, Staatstheater Wiesbaden, Wiener Festwochen, Korean National Opera, Opéra de Lausanne, Komische Oper Berlin amongst others,; he attended a postgraduate course in contemporary ensemble conducting with M° Arturo Tamayo.
The invitation of M° Raoul Grüneis brought Leonhard Garms to Istanbul State Opera as conductor, coach and assistant to the general music director.
Currently he is free lance again, both continuing to collaborate with Istanbul and other Opera Houses and following his interest in contemporary music with various ensembles.
